Default Can't Reach my Network Places&Network Drives

Hi guys..

I'm was not sure which category on this forum to make this thread but..here goes;

I have a problem.

I have a Windows 2000 network, with a Win2000 DC,Win2000 DHCP server, and a Win2003 DNS server. All client machines run WinXP.This morning I realised that my network was slow when users logged on.It's a small college envronment, and students were complaining.I realised that all the network drives, which use logon scripts to map, were not mapping. When I click on My Network Places from client PCs,the icon for the domain is there, sometimes when I try to open it it can't open,or there's only one PC there,or many, and double on them gives the "Network path not found" message.

I can PING a DNS server in another network,I can access internet,I can PING my default gateway,I can every other machine on the network.

I can't use remote desktop to connect to machines on my network,I can't access my network drives.

Here's the funny part; I can access my network drives just fine using my Win2000DHCP server.

It's as though the DC is down, and I restarted it a few times to no avail. In fact,I restarted all the servers several times.

My log files on the DC are all empty, always are.Things just got worse; No one can log on now.It says "Domain is not available."

Any help will be appreciated.

slow logon usually points to the local AD enabled DNS server problem

have you checked that?

YES!!

Ha ha ha!!

Can you believe this? The DNS server somehow got disjoined from the domain.I resetted the computer account for the DNS server, disjoined it from the domain and then joined it again AND.....

WHAM!!

My network's up and running.

It won't happen again!!

Cheers guys!!
